In the pool

- Our team has every level of swimmer from beginner to club

- These are some of the basics to help you get accustomed to our routines if you are unfamiliar with competitive swimming

- The pool is a 25 metre pool: one length is 25m, 2 lengths is 50m

- There are 4 strokes: fly, back, breast, free

            Fly= butterfly
            Back= backstroke
            Breast= breaststroke
            Free= freestyle (as in front crawl)

- Instructions will be given as for the following examples:

- 6 x 50 free : this means 6 times 50 metres of freestyle swimming: This means you swim 50m, then you get a short rest, then 50m, then another short rest, and so on 6 times

- 4 x 100 breast: this means 4 times 100 metres of breaststroke swimming: This means you swim 100m, then you get a short rest, then 100m, then another short rest, and so on 4 times

- At the start of each practice, we always do the same warm-up: a slow 200m free

- You need to do whatever stroke the coaches tell you to do even if you can’t do it very well.  We will give you suggestions and pointers as you practice

- Most routines will be set up so that you only stop at the coaches’ end of the pool, so no stopping at the other end because you’re tired!

- You don’t always have to swim super fast, but you have to always keep swimming

- If the person ahead of you is going too slow, then pass them carefully.  Don’t stop!

- When you reach the end, touch the wall and keep going

- The diving board is off limits

- Always obey the coaches and the student lifeguards

- When the coaches call for your attention, come to their end of the pool and listen for instructions

- This pool has 6 lanes going at all times

- Within the lane ropes, swim there on the outside, back on the inside so no one runs into each other
